Gardaí are continuing to appeal for information after a 90-year-old woman was assaulted during a burglary at her Co Wicklow home.
Gardaí in Bray are investigating the aggravated burglary at the home Eva Sutton in Bray, Co Wicklow about two weeks ago.
At about 5am Ms Sutton awoke to find two men in her house. She was injured during the incident and was removed to St Vincent’s Hospital.
An examination of the scene was carried out and gardaí in Bray are appealing to anyone with information to contact them on 01 6665300.
Separately, a new Garda campaign is urging homeowners to keep lights on in their houses to deter burglars during the winter months.
Gardaí say buildings that appear vacant are more likely to be burgaled and darker evening expose homes that are not well lit.
“It is important to note that the number of residential burglaries that occur between the hours of 5pm and 10pm fluctuate throughout the year depending on the levels of darkness,” said sergeant Kelvin Courtney from the National Crime Prevention Unit.
“For instance in November last year there was over twice as many residential burglaries between 5pm and 10pm, compared to the same time last June.”
