The Criminal Assets Bureau is holding its first online auction of seized property and has put a ladies watch up for sale on eBay.

The Ladies Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust was purchased new for over €9,000. Bidding started at € 6,000yesterday and by 9am there had been 12 offers with the highest totalling € 7,400.

Those interested in bidding for the watch have nine days to make an offer.

The watch is categorised as used in the sale, but has a 24-month guarantee from Keanes jewellers.

CAB has described the auction as a test case and it is considering selling other seized luxury items online, in line with how this material is sold by other European police forces.

The watch is being sold by the username “proceedsofcrimeact1996” and CAB described the item as a Christmas present from 2011.

It says the sale is happening following an application under the Proceeds of Crime Act, 1997 and 2005 and is being sold by a court-appointed receiver.

It is understood the watch was seized from a property in the Moyross area of Limerick last month during which an Audi Q7 car and cash were also recovered.
