The Metropolitan Police yesterday issued a statement confirming that Mr Hunt, who was from the Selhurst area of London but originally from Waterford, was discovered in a skip at the far end of an alleyway off Station Road, South Norwood at around 7am last Saturday.

Although he was taken by ambulance to Kings College Hospital, he died shortly afterwards.

“Mr Hunt was suffering from injuries to his head and body which officers believe were consistent with an assault,” the police said.

Detective chief inspector Diane Tudway said the deceased was well known in his community and had urged members of the public with any information to come forward.
