Fire crews in Belfast have brought a large blaze in an industrial estate in the north of the city under control.

Crews are still at the Edenderry Industrial Estate on the Crumlin Road. Buildings in the industrial estate and the nearby Cambrai were evacuated.

Residents were asked to shut all windows as smoke continued to billow from the fourth floor of the old mill building.

A Fire Service spokesman said they had sent 12 crews - including two aerial appliances - to deal with the blaze after receiving a number of telephone calls.

The cause of the fire has not been established.

Firefighters were concerned about the possibility that the blaze could reach a store containing fireworks several floors below and cause a major explosion.

They managed to bring the blaze under control and were expected to keep dousing the building throughout the day.

Safety experts were then expected to make an assessment of whether the old mill building, whose entire fourth floor was destroyed, should be demolished.
