Twenty seven years before Concorde crashed, a Russian version of the airliner crashed around 5 km from the town. The Tupolev-144, on display at the 1973 Paris Air Show at Le Bourget airport, made a deliberate slow flight over a 200,000 strong crowd before it nosedived, killing 13 people.
