A jury has given a verdict of death by misadventure, after a 19-year-old man died when he jumped over a five-foot wall while being chased by gardaí.

The Dublin City Coroners Court heard that Mr Mark Fallon, Ballinasloe, Co Galway, suffered severe head injuries when he jumped over the wall and hit a lower dividing wall at the car-park of the Mount Bar at Dunloe Hill, Ballinasloe.

Insp Peter Kearney told the court that a small piece of cannabis resin was later found in his pockets but he agreed with the coroner Dr Brian Farrell that there was no clear reason why he ran from gardaí.

The incident occurred on September 23rd, 2001, and Mr Fallon died 10 days later in Beaumont hospital.
