LISBON – A Portuguese court has denied a US request for the extradition of American fugitive George Wright who has spent more than four decades on the run.
The US wants Wright returned to serve the rest of his 15- to 30-year jail sentence for a 1962 killing in New Jersey. Wright's lawyer Manuel Luis Ferreira said the court rejected the US bid.
He said the judge accepted that Wright was Portuguese now and that the statute of limitations had expired. – (AP)
