A South African court cleared the way today for new corruption charges against African National Congress (ANC) leader and presidential candidate Jacob Zuma.
The Supreme Court of Appeal overturned a lower court ruling that threw out thecase against Mr Zuma. Supreme Court judge Louis Harms said the lower court ruling was riddled with errors.
Today’s judgment means that the National Prosecuting Authority can press new charges against Mr Zuma, who allegedly accepted bribes from a French company in a big government arms deal.
It comes two days after Mr Zuma published the ANC’s manifesto for elections to be held in March or April.
The ANC is expected to win a majority and says it wants Mr Zuma as president, despite the corruption cloud that has hung over him for nearly a decade.
