Couple wants search renewed

A Belfast couple have called for the search to be resumed for the body of an IRA murder victim.

A Belfast couple have called for the search to be resumed for the body of an IRA murder victim.

Mr Seamus and Ms Helen McKendry want gardai to begin a dig at Templetown beach in Co Louth for the body of Ms Jean McConville, Ms McKendry's mother, murdered in 1972.

Gardai called off the search last July after nearly two months of digging and the excavation site on the beach has been filled in.

Ms McKendry said the failure to find her mother's body was tearing her family apart. She and her husband have a shrine to Ms McConville on the beach and said they believed her body was buried there. "I wish they would come back and start digging again and this time we will go back with the remains," she said.
