GAA:Although an interim agreement between the GAA and GPA was broadly welcomed, it appears getting the agreement fully endorsed at next April's Congress in Downpatrick could prove problematic with Cork officials already showing resistance to the idea.
For years the GPA has been struggling to win official recognition by the GAA and now with both parties in agreement it appears Cork will vote against the move at Saturday week’s Central Council meeting at Croke Park.
The news comes after much opposition to the agreement by delegates at last night’s Cork county board meeting in Pairc Ui Chaoimh.
At the meeting only one delegate welcomed last Saturday’s agreement where the players’ body was also promised €1.6million in funding from next year.
Cork delegates have now been sent back to their clubs to get their views before the county board mandate their Central Council delegate on how Cork will vote at next week’s meeting.
“There was quite a lot of opposition to the deal with the GPA and clubs felt they needed to go back and consult with their members,' confirmed Cork PRO Ger Lane.
