Cork farmer to take over as president of Macra

A FARMER from Carrigaline, Co Cork, Alan Jagoe, has been elected the 33rd president of Macra na Feirme, the youth farm and rural organisation.

Mr Jagoe (28), a dairy, beef and tillage farmer, has been a member of Carrigaline Macra club for nine years, and is currently Macra na Feirme president of Seandún club. He joined Macra nine years ago. He has travelled to the Netherlands to study alternative farming approaches to dairy, energy and vegetable farming.

His hobbies include both playing and watching sport, current affairs and travel. He is a member of Tracton GAA and 3c South Lee discussion group.

Some of the highlights from his time in Macra include AIB Club of the Year, the Bank of Ireland national leadership awards, national debating and developing club and region.

Mr Jagoe was congratulated yesterday by the man whom he will replace as president, Michael Gowing, who has held the position for the past two years.

He will take up the post on May 7th at the organisation’s agm in Cavan.

The results were also announced in the vice-presidential elections for Macra’s three regions, Munster, Leinster and the northwest.

Kieran O’Dowd from South Sligo Macra club was declared the winner in the northwest, while William Holohan from Mullinavat Macra club in Kilkenny was elected as Leinster vice-president.

Tommy Moyles from Ballinascarthy Macra club was elected unopposed for Munster.
