The Accident & Emergency Department at Cork University Hospital has reopened after heavy rain that flooded part of the building yesterday evening forced it to close.
Drying equipment was put in place overnight, and clean up teams worked throughout the day to finish the moping up.
The hospital's X-ray department is still undergoing comprehensive safety checks before it too can reopen fully.
Met Éireann has warned of more heavy showers of rain across the country, particularly in southern areas, although the rain should ease off later this evening and tomorrow.
AA Roadwatch has advised motorists to avoid the Shannakeal and Sundays Well areas of Cork amid reports of heavy traffic caused by flooding. The fire brigade are clearing drains there.
Flooding has also been reported across Northern Ireland after a night of heavy rain.
There was flooding in Belfast and Co Down, and problems were reported in Co Armagh and Co Antrim, the Department of Regional Development (DRD) said.
With the Met Office warning of more downpours to come, emergency teams from the Water Service and Roads Service, who worked through the night, remained on standby.
There were reports of widespread flooding in Newtownards, Comber and Banbridge in Co Down; Lisburn, Co Antrim; and in Armagh.
Sandbags were used in some areas, but the DRD said the flooding did not get to the stage where outside contractors needed to be called in.
