An army bomb disposal team today carried out a controlled explosion on an "unstable substance" close to the Children's hospital in Dublin.

The substance was discovered in one of the hospital's laboratories yesterday evening.

Army experts took the substance to an sealed-off area close to the hospital grounds at 6.30am and blew it up.
