No dig-out: Local authorities in the UK have been given new powers to tackle companies that cause inconvenience when digging up roads in their areas.

According to UK consumer group Which?, local councils will now be able to fine utility companies who dig up roads without giving notice.

They previously had to take a court action to do so. The hope is that the new powers will cut disruption for motorists and benefit local businesses.
