Pricewatch product reviews: Garden shears

What’s the sharpest buy? Pricewatch’s value-for-money verdict cuts to the chase

Sovereign Hand Shears: This is a very good product; it is easy to use and makes light work of all but the heaviest branches
Sovereign Hand Shears: This is a very good product; it is easy to use and makes light work of all but the heaviest branches

This pleasingly named manufacturer promised Pricewatch a razor-sharp shears, and that is exactly what we got. This is a very good product; it is easy to use and makes light work of all but the heaviest branches. The blades are made of carbon steel and have little notches that help when it comes to slicing through thicker stems. The non-slip handles are aluminium and therefore lightweight, while the blades are coated with chrome to stop them from rusting when they are left in the garden. At nearly €30, this is not the cheapest of the shears on the market, but it is up there with the best. That it has a 10-year manufacturer’s guarantee gives buyers a degree of comfort.

Verdict: Top notch.
