Tesco and the Musgrave Group are appearing before the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Agriculture today in the second of a series of meetings the committee is holding to look at the relationship between supermarkets and suppliers.

Todays’s debate examined the proposed code of conduct for the grocery goods sector and also addressed the horse meat scandal.

Chairman Andrew Doyle said the committee was aware of the "on-going pressure on food pricing, with primary producers in particular increasingly squeezed".

He said there was a perceived lack of a level playing pitch for smaller players in the supply chain, whether they were shops or food producers.

The committee will publish a report on the matter after the hearings are concluded.
