‘A pain but fundamentally right’: commuters on social media

People take to Twitter and Facebook over bus strike disruptions

Hundreds of thousands of commuters can expect disruptions today as the 48-hr bus strike gets underway.

Bus Éireann and Dublin Bus drivers have picketed bus depots after last-minute negotiations with the Labour Relations Commission collapsed.

The industrial action was prompted by plans announced last year by the National Transport Authority to put out to tender 10 per cent of routes with further tranche of routes being put out to tender in 2019.

Commuters are due to experience inconveniences and delays, particularly on a busy Friday ahead of the May Bank Holiday when people are likely to be on the move.

Demand on Dart and Luas services are expected to be very high, as well as demand on Dublin Bike stands.

Some people have taken to social media to express their frustration or support for the strike.
