RACING: Officials at Leopardstown are delighted Sunday's Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup meeting looks set to go ahead without incident. The eight-race card, which features three Grade One events, had to be cancelled last Sunday after the Dublin venue was hit by a mixture of snow and frost.
Officials moved quickly to save the meeting for this weekend, with general manager Tom Burke thrilled the top-class fare is eventually going ahead.
“We’re really looking forward to Sunday’s meeting and, weather-wise, we have had a very good week,” said Burke. “We had a bit of snow last Sunday but thankfully that was the end of it.
“We’ve had a dry week and we are currently calling the hurdle course soft, while the chase course is soft, heavy in places. Last week we went from snow to flooding then back to snow and we had everything one can imagine when it comes to bad weather.
“It’s a very good card and we are expecting a big crowd. Those who do come are going to witness some fantastic racing,” Burke added.
