LONDON - Bitter divisions between Britain and other Commonwealth members over how to respond to the Rhodesia crisis in the mid 1960s are revealed in secret papers released today.

The unilateral declaration of independence in 1965 by the former Rhodesian prime minister Mr Ian Smith and British efforts to force a return to constitutional rule by imposing economic sanctions on the regime, threatened the unity of the new multi racial Commonwealth.
