Comment on flag brings protest

Oslo - An advertisement in a Norwegian newspaper comparing the Japanese flag to a used sanitary towel provoked protests yesterday from the Japanese embassy in Oslo. The ad, placed in the run-up to next month's Winter Olympics in Nagano, showed a white sanitary towel with a blood-red spot in the middle. "We wish the female participants luck in Nagano," read the caption, written in Japanese-style script.
