Peter Coghlan's ambitions in the World Athletics Championships came to an abrupt end this evening as the Irish hurdler failed to qualify from his heats in Paris.
Coghlan finished last in the second heat of the 100metres hurdles after racing in a time of 13.89 seconds.
The heat was won comfortably by the defending champion Alan Johnson who cruised over the line first in 13.43. The American also won the title in 1995 and 1997.
Coghlan was the only Irish athlete in action at the Stade de France today.
