Cocaine and "mixing agent" with an estimated street value of €2 million has been seized in a house in Carbury, Co Kildare. Local gardaí, backed by officers from the Garda National Drugs Unit and the Garda Dog Unit, carried out a search of the house on Saturday morning.
They seized 8 kilos of cocaine, with an estimated street value of €800,000. Some 20 kilos of mixing agent was also recovered.
One man in his 50's was arrested and was being detained at Naas Garda Station last night. He was being held under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice, Drug Trafficking, Act. He was expected to appear before Naas District Court this morning.
Saturday's seizure was one of a number of major drugs hauls in recent weeks. Some €8 million worth of drugs have been seized in the State so far this year.
On January 15th officers from the National Drugs Unit and the Cork Regional Drugs Unit intercepted a €5 million haul of ecstasy in Co Laois.
The drugs were recovered when a car was stopped and searched. On January 23rd gardaí from the Santry Divisional Drugs Unit, Dublin, recovered a €213,000 haul of cocaine and cannabis when a car was stopped and searched on Swords Road, Santry.
