A former League of Ireland player has been jailed for four years after pleading guilty to indecently assaulting four boys while coaching a soccer team in Dundalk between 1986 and 1990.

Eamon Lynch (34), of Rockmarshall, Dundalk, a former player with Dundalk and Monaghan, was sentenced to eight years at Dundalk Circuit Court, with the final four years suspended on condition he resume a course for sex offenders.

Judge Raymond Groarke said Lynch had "burrowed" his way into the victims' homes and set about his actions in a most schematic way.
