A Co Longford soccer player who was seriously injured in a fall on Friday night has died at Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar.

Shane Brennan (23) of Newtownforbes, Co Longford, was injured on Friday evening after he fell through a roof in his home town.

He played for the Athlone Town football club and for the Irish Technical and Private Colleges teams. He also played Gaelic football for Clonguish.

Mr Brennan was due to complete a business studies degree at Dublin Institute of Technology, Dublin.
