A bronze statue of President Clinton is to be erected in Ballybunion, Co Kerry, to mark his visit to the resort for a game of golf early next month during his proposed visit to Ireland.

He is scheduled to play on the famous Ballybunion course with the former Tanaiste, Mr Dick Spring. The Ballybunion Development Company has commissioned a Cork artist, Mr Sean MacCarthy, to create the life-size bronze piece, which will stand on the outskirts of the town.

The President will be invited to unveil the statue, which will show him playing golf. The chairman of Ballybunion Development Company, Mr Jackie Hourigan, said the sculpture would provide a permanent reminder of the President's visit.
