Washington - President Bill Clinton yesterday granted a six-month reprieve to convicted murderer Juan Raul Garza, who was scheduled next week to be the first person executed under federal law since 1963.

President Clinton said in a written statement he was granting the reprieve to give the Justice Department time to study "racial and geographic disparities in the federal death penalty system".
