Nicosia - President Glafcos Clerides of Cyprus said yesterday he had agreed to attend talks on Cyprus after assurances from UN and US mediators that they would be productive.

Mr Clerides, speaking before the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mr Rauf Denktash, yesterday rejected the UN's invitation to talks, said it would have been a mistake for him not to attend the talks.
