A woman who received serious facial injuries when a bottle thrown by another woman smashed through her car window asked the judge not to jail the accused woman.

Eileen Ward, a mother of four from Spur Hill, Cork, pleaded guilty in Cork District Court to assaulting Ms Miriam Shanahan and to causing criminal damage on June 16th last at Doughcloyne, Togher, Cork.

Ward had been drinking and, for no apparent reason threw a bottle at Ms Shanahan's car as it was passing her caravan.

Ms Shanahan said her injuries, which kept her out of work for two weeks, had healed and she would not like to see a mother jailed. She had accepted an apology by Ward.
