ITALIAN COMPOSER, pianist and world music specialist Antoni O’Breschi will play at Galway’s first official “fringe”, which is due to run parallel to the city’s arts festival next month.
Inventor of the “Celtic piano”, the musician added an “O” to his surname to reflect his love for Ireland. He has performed with the late Dubliners Barney McKenna and Ronnie Drew, accordionist Mairtín O’Connor and others.
His performance at the G Hotel on July 19th and 21st is one of over 100 events. Other acts include the Deans, Eamonn Dowd and the Racketeers, the Pattern Dance Collective, Athenry Music School Guitar Orchestra, the Galway Sinfonietta, Bachata Republic, Les Hot Culottes and Crowbar Comedy.
Twelve dance companies and 30 theatre productions are involved, along with comedy, art, puppetry and children’s events.
Festival director Claire Keegan said it was a "celebration of the vibrant arts scene in Galway". Arts Council funding was not forthcoming, but the fringe is hoping for support from Galway City Council. Visit galwayfringe.ieand galwayartsfestival.com
