A quantity of cigarettes with an estimated value of €100,000 was seized in Co Westmeath yesterday evening.
Gardaí stopped and searched a van at Cullionbeg, Mullingar at about 5.35pm during which they discovered the tobacco.
Investigations are being carried out to establish if the cigarettes are counterfeit.
A man in his twenties who was the driver and only occupant of the van was questioned in relation to the incident.
