The Government has missed a chance to make a "significant impact" on the "teenage smoking epidemic" by its 10p increase on a packet of 20 cigarettes, according to the Irish Cancer Society.

The society's chief executive, Mr Tom Hudson, said the increase was "totally inadequate" as the cost of cigarettes played a large role in determining how many teenagers start smoking.
