CIE unions opposed to the company's viability plans have called off their protest marches planned for tomorrow because they say they have been threatened with legal action if they proceed.

However, a group of CIE activists intend to organise their own march from the Garden of Remembrance to Leinster House at 11 a.m. tomorrow, in an action separate from the unions.

The National Bus and Rail Union said that the trade unions had consulted their legal representatives who advised them to cancel the marches.

Mr Peter Bunting, general secretary, NBRU, said that management by fear, and legal threats would not result in a compliant work force.
