Shopkeepers in Northern Ireland were tonight put on a state of alert for a possible pre-Christmas bombing campaign.

Shopkeepers in Northern Ireland were tonight put on a state of alert for a possible pre-Christmas bombing campaign.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland urged all owners of shops to check their premises thoroughly and review their search procedures following the discovery of an incendiary device in the border town of Newry earlier this month.

Last night, road and rail links between Newry and Dublin were closed after a lorry was hijacked and set alight outside the town on the A1 near Kileen Bridge.
