MOSCOW - The veteran Russian grand master Anatoly Karpov (45) and a young challenger, Gata Kamsk (22), drew the third of their 20 games in the world chess championship yesterday, making the overall score 1-1/2 points each.

Both players made their moves quickly at the start of the game, with Karpov playing white, but slowed down as they sought a breakthrough towards the middle. A draw was eventually agreed after 49 moves.

The World Chess Federation (FIDE) title match is being played in Elista, capital of the semi autonomous Kalmyk Republic of Russia, between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea.
