A CHEF who used his own car in a robbery at the restaurant where he worked has been given a two year suspended sentence and ordered to pay £1,000 compensation.

Mohammed Ali Yousef's family are strict Muslims and have disowned him for his crime, defence counsel Mr Raymond Farrell told Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Yousef at first denied the charge when arrested but when shown gloves, balaclavas and two toy guns which were found in his flat, he admitted having been the getaway driver.

Yousef (26), formerly of Lower Rathmines Road, Dublin, pleaded guilty to robbery at the Mr Gandhi restaurant, Olivemount Terrace, Dundrum, on March 12th, 1995.
