A father and son were charged yesterday with petrol-bombing the home of an elderly couple in the Oldpark area of Belfast at the weekend.

Mr Paul Joseph Mackin (43) and his son, Paul (18), from Oldpark Avenue, were charged with recklessness, endangering the life of the owner.

The elderly couple were in bed when a petrol-bomb was thrown at the front of the house. They were not injured and damage was slight.

Mr Paul Mackin jnr was also charged with possessing a knife in a public place and with assaulting three policemen who arrested him following a car chase.

Both defendants were remanded in custody for a month and their solicitor said applications for bail would be made in the High Court tomorrow.
