Suduva 0 Celtic 2
(Celtic win 10-1 on aggregate)
Celtic missed out on history tonight but Alan Thompson and David Fernandez played themselves into contention for an Old Firm starting place as they completed a European rout in Lithuania.
The Glasgow giants were chasing an aggregate record of 14-0 set against KPV Kokkola in 1970.
Celtic edged a step closer to the landmark victory after 12 minutes when David Fernandez pounced to bag his first competitive goal since his £1 million summer move from Livingston.
Republic of Ireland international Colin Healy started the move with a determined run through the centre before finding John Hartson, who in turn fed Fernandez to clip the ball over the onrushing Padimanskas.
Celtic doubled their lead 13 minutes later when Hartson played down Didier Agathe's cross into the path of Alan Thompson and he had the easiest of jobs to poke the ball home from close range.
Healy squandered a great chance to make it three in the 37th minute when he got on the end of Bobby Petta's cross, but he headed well wide of the mark.
Celtic looked hungry for more goals after the restart and Maloney had the ball in the Suduva net in the 48th minute but it was ruled out for offside.
