Dani will not be signing for Celtic after the club and player failed to thrash out an agreement over a contract.
The Portuguese forward has spent the best part of the month training with the Parkhead side in a bid to win a move to the east end of Glasgow. He was invited to extend his trial period after manager Martin O`Neill claimed he needed longer to assess the hitman because he was still short of fitness.
The Hoops boss admitted that Dani`s fitness was still a problem and that it did not help negotiations to thrash out a deal, but O`Neill insists the door is still open for the striker to make a return to Celtic in the future.
He told the club`s official website, www.celticfc.net: "We were delighted that Dani decided to come over here to train with us, and unfortunately at the end of it all we have been unable to agree any contract."
The saga over whether Ivan de la Pena will sign for Celtic seems set to continue. He had joined Dani on trial at Parkhead before snubbing a move to Celtic to join Qatar. But O`Neill remains adamant that de la Pena will have to return to Glasgow for further assessment before any deal will be put on the table.
