Arsonists set fire to a Catholic church during an overnight attack on the outskirts of south Belfast

Arsonists set fire to a Catholic church during an overnight attack on the outskirts of south Belfast. Flammable liquid was poured into the rear porch of St Colman's church at Queensway, Dunmurry and ignited.

Police said the fire brigade was called once the alarm was raised just after midnight and extinguished the blaze.

"Damage was confined to the porch, where two wooden doors were charred and the walls scorched," a PSNI spokeswoman said.

A red petrol container was found at the scene. Detectives investigating the fire have urged any witnesses to come forward. PA
