A group of caravans which was yesterday ordered to quit a public car park in Killorglin has moved en masse to the north Kerry seaside resort of Ballyheigue.
The 25 to 30 caravans moved after a judge in the Circuit Court in Killarney ordered them out of a public car park in Killorglin normally reserved for a fun fair during the annual Puck Fair festival, which begins next week.
The Kerry County Secretary, Mr Philip O'Sullivan, yesterday expressed his dismay at the arrival of the caravans at a car park in Ballyheigue. "It's a very frustrating situation. We went to a lot of time and expense to get them to move. Now, we are faced with a similar situation again."
Earlier yesterday, Judge Sean O'Leary had granted an injunction to the council for the immediate removal of the caravans, which had moved "in a matter of hours" on to a car park normally reserved for a Puck Fair funfair.
But Judge O' Leary also criticised the arrangement between Kerry County Council and Birds Amusements, which he said, reserved the car park in Killorglin for 14 days each year. Representing the council, Mr Conor Lenihan, barrister, said Birds Amusements had operated for generations on the site which had market rights by Royal Charter since the 16th century.
