Alice Leahy, director and co-founder of Trust, the organisation for the homeless, has criticised the cap on placements on post-Leaving Cert (PLC) courses at VECs.

“We have no future unless we give our young people a future, and turning down a staggering 65 per cent of students who applied for PLC courses means putting all our futures at risk,” she said.

Speaking at a conferring ceremony yesterday at Dublin’s Liberties College, Ms Leahy described the cap as indefensible, with only 13,000 places awarded out of 37,000 applications.
