squad has arrested an Algerian man in connection with a terrorist plot to destroy the US Embassy in Paris, The Globe and Mail newspaper reported on its Web site today.

The paper said Adel Tobbichi (34) was arrested in Montreal late yesterday by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police following an extradition request from the Netherlands. The squad, formed after the September 11th attack on the United States, also searched his apartment, the paper said.

It said authorities believe Tobbichi forged documents for people linked to the al-Qaeda network, which the US government blames for the attack that killed about 3,000 people. Djamel Beghal is suspected of being the leader in the plot to blow up the US Embassy in Paris.
