An information campaign to encourage people to register for voting has been launched by Minister for the Environment, John Gormley, which will run until the end of the month.
Last year, a similar campaign showed up tens of thousands of mistakes in the register, though many of them, but not all, were sorted out before the public went to the polls in May's general election.
The draft will be on display until November 25th in public offices, such as city and county council offices, Garda stations, libraries and post offices. Members of the public can also check if they are registered at www.checktheregister.ie.
The campaign, which will run in newspapers, radio and on television, will encourage voters to check the register, and show people where to go to correct errors or omissions.
Mr Gormley said: "A high quality Register of Electors is essential for the successful operation of the electoral system and of the democratic process itself and the coming weeks is an important opportunity for us all to work towards that objective.
"The accuracy and comprehensiveness of the Register of Electors depend to a large extent on the co-operation and engagement of the public," he said.
