The Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) has called on the Government to accelerate increases in the National Minimum Wage in order to reduce the wage gap between men and women.
Responding to a Economic and Social Research Institute report on Monday, which found women's average hourly pay was 15.5 per cent less than men's, ICTU equality officer Ms Joan Carmichael said the current minimum wage had a "relatively small impact on the wage gap, perhaps less than 1 per cent".
