A Galway city councillor has called for the immediate implementation of new by-laws which ban public drinking, claiming that the city's St Patrick's Day celebrations had been tarnished by scenes of drunkenness and extensive littering. "The image we portrayed was that we were nothing better than a city of lager louts," said Cllr Donal Lyons (PD).
