Mr Willie Farrell (FF) suggested that it was time to call for the abolition of An Bord Pleanala, which had made a "scandalous" decision in stopping young people who had formed a co-operative to build homes for themselves at a cost of £65,000 each.
"I think it's absolutely scandalous in this day and age, when young people who took off their coats and decided to get themselves homes and had the blessing of the local authority, that Bord Pleanala should overturn it."
He said he had documentation about another case where "their own senior planning officer recommended that the planning permission be given and the board overturned it. So I wonder where An Bord Pleanala is going. It's time, I think, that we called for its abolition. Certainly I have very strong feelings about the way it's behaving".
