Cadbury Schweppes is reported to be close to agreeing a deal to buy chewing gum brands from Dandy Group, the Danish maker of Stimorol.

The soft drinks and confectionery group said in April it was in talks that could lead to it buying assets from Dandy, whose other gum brands include V6 and Dirol.

The Financial Timesreported that the deal could be finalised as early as this week, assuming there are no last-minute hitches.

Dandy, the fourth-largest maker of chewing gum in the world, is wholly owned by the Bagger-Soerensen family.

It is thought that Dandy will continue to manufacture gum in some capacity under any deal with the UK company.

Dandy already makes gum for Cadbury's Hollywood brand, which is sold in France.

The Financial Timessaid Cadbury declined to comment.

Two months ago, it was suggested that Cadbury might pay £350 million sterling for Dandy's brands.

Cadbury's existing gum businesses around the world include Beldent in Argentina; and Wuxi Leaf in China.
