A GARDA investigation is taking place in Co Monaghan after a Carrickmacross businessman was beaten up and his business set on fire.
Corduff joiner Thomas Marron was assaulted at his workshop at Barnadonagh, three miles from Carrickmacross, at 9.30pm on Friday.
He was set upon and sustained head injuries, but managed to get to a nearby house to raise the alarm. He was later taken to Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda, Co Louth.
Two units of Carrickmacross fire brigade were called to Mr Marron’s workshop. Considerable damage was done to the premises, and Mr Marron’s four-wheel drive vehicle was destroyed in the blaze.
It is understood gardaí are interested in the movements of a red car which contained three youths with peaked caps which was seen in the area several hours before the incident.
