The former Minister for Justice, Mr Ray Burke, and the leader of the Fianna Fail group in the Seanad, Senator G.V. Wright, were last night chosen to represent the party at the next general election in the Dublin North constituency.
Mr Burke was the unanimous choice at a selection convention where he was nominated as a Dail candidate for the ninth time by the former county councillor, Mr Larry Mulvihill.
In a contest for the second nomination, Senator Wright defeated the Skerries based county councillor, Mr Sean Gilbride, by 56 votes to 19.
Fianna Fail has adopted a policy of holding early selection conventions in constituencies where it currently holds only one Dail seat.
