Kabul - Afghanistan's ruling Taliban movement vowed yesterday to punish anyone caught smuggling remains of two giant Buddha statues, demolished last month in the face of international protests and a global outcry.

Taliban officials dismissed media reports that truckloads of rubble from the historic Bamiyan Buddhas had been driven across the border into neighbouring Pakistan and was for sale in the city of Peshawar.
